In advocacy for pets and to their owners this message is to help bring awareness to the danger of giving your pet treats and toys that can lead to their death.
On January 23rd, 2010 I had given my Dachshund a raw hambone dog treat. After eating some of the raw hambone Shoe-bert began to vomit up parts of the chewed bone. After the vomiting stopped Shoe-bert seemed better, but still not himself, so we let him rest. Two hours later I went to check on Shoe-bert and I found him dead in my mother’s bedroom. When I picked Shoe-bert up in my arms a pool of blood began to pour from his nose and mouth and there was a foul stench. Still in shock I rushed Shoe-bert to our Veterinary in case there was any miracle possible, but rigor mortis had already began. The doctor on staff concluded that there was a rupture to Shoe-bert’s stomach and the foul stench was bile from within his stomach lining.
I purchased the raw hambone from Sunflower super market in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The manufacturer of the bone is Dynamic Pets. I was enticed to purchase the raw hambone when I came across an enormous five foot high Dynamic Pet’s raw hambone display with an image of a “Super-Dog with a cape “ flying through the air, in the middle of an aisle.
In research we found that over a dozen other dogs had died in similar ways with relation after eating the Dynamic Hambone for dogs. Sunflower Supermarkets has since seized to sell this product. Our attorney continues to follow up with this case.
My mother and I are very devastated to have lost our little friend and more so in the manner that he had to die in vain. Shoe-bert was never sick a day in his life and was full of happiness and gave endless amounts of love and joy. I hope our heartbreaking experience will save other pets and their owners from this tragedy.
“We love you Shoe.”
